command point.jpg

A firefighter discovered the sewer leak at the rear of the station.

A large quantity of sewerage was leaking from a manhole, and flowing into the drains, leading directly into the river due to a blockage further up the line.

Fire control were notified, and mobilised 1 fire engine from Tenbury, the EPU from Stourport and a support pump.

Firefighters blocked the drains using special putty, and bags of sand.  When the EPU arrived, special bungs were used to block more drains.  The sewerage was then contained to the drain pits.  At around 15.30, the sewers were unblocked by Severn Trent and the spillage stopped flowing, so the sewerage was pumped away by Severn Trent.  The yard was then cleaned up, and the scene was left at around 1600.
