After
returning home from the previous incident, about 5 minutes later another
call received.
Crews arrived
to find a chimney fire, but no-one at home. Firefighters forced
entry into the house, to investigate from inside. The fire could not
be dealt with from inside. Firefighters then pitched the 9M ladder
and the roof ladder, to fight the fire using a hosereel. The Sub
Officer then noticed smoke coming from the roof tiles, so investigated the
roof space. The fire had spread into beams in the roof space.
An assistance message was sent, to make pumps 2. At 23:48:36, 532 RP
mobilsed. Firefighters used fire extinguishers as an initial method
to extinguish the fire in the roof, but had to use a hosereel to fully
extinguish the fire. Part of the beam had to be cut away, and some
bricks had to be removed.

so firefighters used whistles, and the casualty told the police whether
the sound was getting any nearer. Eventually the battery ran out on the
phone, so firefighters resorted to a general search. Firefighters
eventually located the casualty on a bridle path, trapped up to his thighs

Animal
Rescue
Hayes Lane, Tenbury Wells. |
Pony trapped
in a ditch. On arrival, crews proceeded about 1/2 a mile on foot to
the animal, which had become trapped in a stream at the bottom of a deep
embankment.
Firefighters
used a power saw and a pair of bolt cutters to cut through a fence and
free the animal from the water onto dry land. The horse was very
exhausted, and was unable to move. A vet was called and he said we
should pull the pony up the bank using ropes and a quad bike, even though
it was very risky and the pony may have died as a result. It was
unanimously agreed between the owners, the vet and the firefighters, that
it was the best option, as leaving the animal overnight in muddy wet
conditions had it's own risks, from hypothermia and shock.
The animal was
rescued and dragged to a field after about 3 hours, deeply distressed,
shocked and exhausted. The pony was covered in hay and straw and
blankets, made comfortable and given food and water. Firefighters
and the vet left the scene, and left the owners to care for the pony
overnight.
The rescue was
very difficult, and made worse by a very heavy rain storm, which turned
the area into a muddy bog.
The animal has
since died.

532 was the
first on the scene, followed shortly afterwards by 531. Firefighters
checked the cab of the lorry, which had overturned, for any casualties.
There were no casualties in the lorry. The driver had made his way
on foot to a nearby house, to get help. The occupier covered the
casualty with blankets until firefighters arrived. Firefighters gave
oxygen therapy, and checked him over for injuries. Ambulance crews
arrived after approximately 20 minutes, and took over from firefighters.
Fire Service personnel then assisted the ambulance crews with transferring
him onto a board, so that he could be taken into the ambulance, and
transferred to hospital. Firefighters then made the lorry safe. 262
and 268 were not required.

A barn fire
incident that had been running from around 11pm. On arrival, 531
took over as the control point. Firefighters also were standing by
around the barn with main jets, to ensure no fire spread, and to cool
steel joists, that were melting. The fire was being allowed to burn
out. There was a large area, approximately 100m x 50m well alight,
full of cooking oil, and a large amount of hay. Firefighters also
had to contain the oil, which was being washed away by the water run-off,
so drains were blocked, and a boom had to be placed across a nearby
stream, as some oil did get into the water course. Tenbury
firefighters left the scene at around 10.30am, and a Kidderminster crew
took over.
