Before you go to bed at night, by following the tips outlined below, you can reduce the chances of a fire occurring in your home.

  • Switch off electrical appliances at the wall and unplug
  • Make sure the contents of ashtrays are cold - it's best not to empty them until the next morning when you can be sure there is no risk of causing a fire (ie, in your bin)
  • Close all doors - this will prevent fire spread, should a fire start
  • Make sure your escape route is clear
