  • Never overload sockets with more than one adaptor

Extension Lead up to 13 Amps

  • Always ensure the correct fuse is used in plugsOverloaded Socket
  • Remove plugs carefully - don't pull the flex
  • Switch off and unplug appliances when not in use
  • Ensure plugs are wired correctly - Brown is Live, Blue is Neutral and Yellow and Green stripes are Earth.  You may still find plugs with the old wiring code, where Red is Live, Black is Neutral and Green is Earth.
  • Use low wattage bulbs in bedrooms

 

General Hints and Tips for Electrical Safety;

  • Look out for signs of wear and tear
  • Hot plugs
  • Fuses blowing for no apparent reasonDamaged Flex
  • Flickering lights
  • Brown marks on sockets
  • Damage to flex

If you think an appliance is dangerous or faulty, switch it off immediately and do not use it until it has been checked by a qualified electrician.

Electric Blankets.

  • Make sure they are serviced once a year.
  • Make sure they are kept in good condition.
  • Store with as few folds as possible.
  • Do not store items on top of blankets.
  • Do not use if there are signs of wear or scorch marks.
